How the price is calculated

The calculated token price is 1/P. P is the mean of 16 preservation coefficients, in equal shares of 1/16. The base date is 02.01.2001. A market price does not have to equal 1/P. The exchange-rate reference stays on the dashboard.

Preservation coefficient

ck = Ik(t0) Ik(t)

I is the consumer price index on the Purchasing power page. The base print is 02.01.2001: January 2001, written 01.2001, for BLS and Eurostat, and the year 2001 for the World Bank rows. The latest print is the last month or year the API returned.

Mean P

P = (Σ ck) / 16

Equal shares, 1/16 each. There are no statistical weights. P is published to four decimal places. If an index is missing and there is no saved slice, the price is left unavailable.

Token price

1/P

The calculated token price is 1 divided by P. When the average purchasing power of the basket falls, P falls and 1/P rises. The figure is a unit of account. A market price does not have to equal it.

Quote in currency k

qk = (1/P) · ck

The quote uses the published 1/P and the ratio of the two printed indexes. It is the same number as on the home page. It is not a market quote.

Mint buffer

When buying BasketCoin, the user deposits an amount 20 % above the current calculated value of the index. This reserve stays in the contract and is used to smooth swings when the index is updated each month.

The buffer size is fixed in the smart contract and the owner can only increase it. It cannot be decreased.

Right now BasketCoin is a calculated index. The token, mint against collateral, and trading in the pool will appear separately after the contract and the tests are finished. The current price 1/P is not an offer to buy or sell.

Equal shares

Sixteen currencies, each with share 1/16. The order is the table below. The shares are not from statistics.

Equal shares, not from statistics. Each currency is 1/16.
Currency Share
US dollar USD 1/16
Euro EUR 1/16
Swiss franc CHF 1/16
Pound sterling GBP 1/16
Yen JPY 1/16
Yuan CNY 1/16
Australian dollar AUD 1/16
Canadian dollar CAD 1/16
Swedish krona SEK 1/16
Norwegian krone NOK 1/16
Danish krone DKK 1/16
Singapore dollar SGD 1/16
Korean won KRW 1/16
Indian rupee INR 1/16
New Zealand dollar NZD 1/16
Hong Kong dollar HKD 1/16
Total 16/16

The basket composition can expand. The shares are always equal. A change is published in advance and applies only to a future price calculation.

Coverage

The basket currencies are about 78 % of world GDP and about 92 % of SWIFT payments. The shares are equal, 1/16 each. Those coverage figures describe the set of currencies. They are not the shares inside the price.

Example of the calculated price

These figures are the same calculation as on the Purchasing power page. They are not typed in. P is the mean of the 16 coefficients. The token price is 1/P. It is a calculated unit, not a market quote.

The calculated price is only 1/P, from 16 equal shares.

Frankfurter exchange-rate reference. Not the calculated price.

The block below is the Frankfurter reference kept on the dashboard, including the series since 2001. It uses frozen amounts and working weights. It is not the main price.

The currency amount is fixed at t₀

ai = wi · P0 Si(t0)

In the numerator the weight wᵢ is multiplied by the base price P₀. In the denominator, Sᵢ(t₀) is the rate of currency i on the base date. The day's rate Sᵢ(t) appears only in the price of the day.

Price of the day

P(t) = Σ ai · Si(t)

The base price P₀ is 1,0000 US dollars. The base date is the nearest business day to 1 January 2001, —. On that day P(t₀) = 1,0000.

Price in any basket currency

Pk(t) = Σ ai · Si(t) / Sk(t)

The dollar is not an anchor. It is simply one of the six basket currencies. BasketCoin is the only scale. The price of BasketCoin in any currency is calculated directly: the amount of that currency in the basket, multiplied by its rate to the dollar, divided by that currency's rate to the dollar. The dollar is a technical intermediate step, because Frankfurter quotes every rate against the dollar.

wi
Working weight of the currency, not from statistics. The six weights sum to 100%.
Si(t)
US dollars per one unit of currency i on day t. For the dollar, S = 1. For the franc, S is dollars per one franc: the dashboard tile and the example below divide P(t) by this rate.
P0
Base price: 1,0000 US dollars on the nearest business day to 1 January 2001 (—). It stands in the numerator of aᵢ.
ai
Multiplier of currency i: aᵢ = wᵢ · P₀ / Sᵢ(t₀). The number is frozen on the base date.
P(t)
Price of one BasketCoin in US dollars on day t, before the rounding used for publication.

Exchange-rate reference weights

Order of the basket: dollar, euro, franc, pound, yen, yuan. The weights are working weights, not from statistics. The sum is one hundred percent.

Working weights, not from statistics. The sum is 100%.
Currency Weight
US dollar USD 44%
Euro EUR 30%
Swiss franc CHF 3%
Pound sterling GBP 5%
Yen JPY 6%
Yuan CNY 12%
Total 100%

Source of the weights

Dollar 44%, euro 30%, yuan 12%, yen 6%, pound 5%, franc 3%. These are working shares, not statistics. At publication they are checked against currency shares in SWIFT payments and against IMF COFER reserves, snapshot October 2026.

Example on —

The base date is —, P₀ = 1,0000 USD. The day's rates are the same live rates as on the dashboard. The example result is the published price — USD. The price in francs is P(t) / SCHF(t): — CHF, the same number as on the dashboard tile.

The same coin in euros, francs, and yen

The snapshot date is the same as on the dashboard. The amounts aᵢ are frozen on —. The price in currency k is calculated directly: the sum of the currency amounts in the basket, each multiplied by that currency's rate to the dollar and divided by currency k's rate to the dollar. That is the same number as P(t) / Sk(t). For the franc, S is dollars per one franc, and the table row matches the dashboard tile.

Pk(t) = P(t) / Sk(t)

Publication order

  1. The main price P is the mean of the preservation coefficients from the CPI table. If an index is missing and there is no saved slice, P is left unavailable.
  2. The published price is P(t), rounded to four decimal places. The table rows above are calculated before that rounding.
  3. The weights and the amounts aᵢ are fixed apart from the daily rates. The weights are working weights, not from statistics, and they sum to 100%.
  4. The dollar is not an anchor. It is simply one of the six basket currencies. BasketCoin is the only scale. The price in any currency is calculated directly by the formula above. The dollar is a technical intermediate step, because Frankfurter quotes every rate against the dollar.
